
As part of Nubanks global rebrand, creative studio illo was invited together with Brazilian agency Polar.Ltdato transform one of the brands core values into a visual language: transparency.
The result is a distinctive, ownable illustration system designed to feel clear, intuitive, and engaging across all touchpointsfrom in-app animations to large-scale campaigns.
At its heart lies a clean and flexible system of illustrated and animated elements, fully integrated into Nubanks app via Rive. Motion plays a key role, adding a subtle sense of three-dimensionality through transparency, layering, and minimal design.
But the language doesnt stop at the app. It scales to editorial content and broader communication formats. For storytelling-driven assets, illo introduced richer compositions with gradients and human elements. For OOH and billboards, the team translated the concept into stylized 3D scenes made of glassy coins and abstract formsalways guided by the same core principle: transparency.
This central theme is more than a visual cue. Its a narrative device that reflects Nubanks identity. In Brazilian Portuguese, nu means naked or barea nod to the brands commitment to simplicity and honesty. The illustration system echoes this spirit with visuals that are open, essential, and confidently Nu.
To ensure long-term scalability, illo also developed a set of practical guidelines, empowering Nubanks internal team to apply and evolve the system consistently.
