The White Room designed Be a Sport Editorial. How do you mix art and sport? You bundle them up in a nice little package and wrap it (literally) with a hockey skate lace. When the Art Gallery of Mississauga launched its /u201cBe a Sport/u201d show during Toronto/u2019s 2015 Pan Am Games, we were asked to produce the catalogue for this exhibition exploring how competitive games are examined and understood.
The catalogue/u2019s design features elements pulled from typical sport aesthetics but used minimally in a subtle way in keeping with an art gallery feel. The table of contents is set up like a baseball diamond; athletic-looking fonts such as PowerStation Block are used to recall scoreboards; and photo cropping and copy layout play heavily with angles, referencing the geometric look of many sport-related ad campaigns.
