Obys has released Season 03 of its Design Education Series, returning to the subject that started the whole thing. Grids began as a studio experiment in 2021 and has since been visited by more than 600,000 designers worldwide. Five years on, the idea has been rebuilt from the ground up as a completely new interactive experience.
The site explores grids, composition, visual tension and other key design principles through motion and interaction. Rather than simply explaining how grids work, the studio makes them visible — turning theory into something a visitor can explore, observe and experience directly. The project continues the original premise, built around the same principle: design knowledge can be shared through design itself.
Design Education Series is Obys’ ongoing run of self-initiated teaching projects, each one taking a fundamental of visual design and rebuilding it as something interactive rather than written. Season 03 applies that method to the most structural subject the series has tackled so far. The result reads less like documentation and more like an instrument you operate.
Across the experience, motion design does the explaining that a static diagram would struggle with. Columns and gutters assemble on screen, shift under the cursor and reorganise as the page moves, so the structure is never separated from the thing it structures. Watching a layout rearrange itself makes the underlying logic legible in a way a labelled illustration rarely manages.

The closing sequence turns the logotype itself into a demonstration, stretching and compressing the letterforms until the grid behind them is impossible to miss. The typography ends up doing double duty, acting as both the voice of the project and a live example of its subject. Five years after the first experiment, Grids has become the lesson it was originally only describing.
