Brompton has spent five decades building a cult following around one product: a bicycle that folds. For its 50th anniversary, the London-born brand needed a visual identity that could carry it from a localised manufacturing aesthetic into a unified, digital-first platform across Europe, the USA and Asia. Studio Blackburn led the brand identity work, built around a new strategic truth: Life Unfolded.
At the centre of the system is Brompton Slab, a custom slab-serif typeface expanded from the brand's original eight-letter logotype. To launch it, Studio Blackburn worked with Brompton's creative team to cut oversized metal letters and shoot them directly on the factory floor in Greenford, linking the new digital type back to the raw engineering and machinery behind every bike.

The system also introduces Brompton Blue, a proprietary colour inspired by International Klein Blue, alongside a motion language built around the bike's own folding mechanism. Forms fold, unfold and settle across the identity, translating a mechanical action into a consistent visual signature that scales from a single social post to a full retail environment.

Before the refresh, Brompton's identity had fragmented across markets. The new system unifies retail, online, CRM and advertising under a single global platform, without losing the physical, engineered character that built the brand in the first place. The type specimens below were shot as part of the same factory-floor process used to develop Brompton Slab.
