Chaptr designed the website for John Hansard Gallery, the contemporary art gallery in Southampton, UK. The homepage opens with a full-screen image of a hazy mountain landscape and a large bird gliding across it, promoting David Blandy’s How to Fly in a big white sans-serif with the title in italics. The gallery wordmark and the University of Southampton logo sit neatly in the top corner, next to a Support us link, search and menu. Along the bottom, a row of white cards lists current exhibitions by Andi Schmied, Larry Achiampong, Haroon Mirza and the Stair/Slide Space, with a preview image popping up above one of them. Clear, calm and generous with imagery, it is thoughtful web design that puts the art first, backed by a quietly confident UI.
