Shelby's Desk is the portfolio of Shelby Kho, a product designer and illustrator from Indonesia who is currently based in New York. The site is built as one continuous hand-drawn desk, crowded with stacked notebooks, pens, a camera, a Rubik's cube and the small tools of a designer's working day. Instead of opening on a grid of thumbnails, it invites visitors to look around that desk, so the portfolio feels like a place rather than a list.
A small computer character called MINICOM greets visitors on arrival, chatting from a speech bubble and offering comments as they move through the page. Scrolling on, the sides of the desk close into a windowed frame and an open journal takes over, with featured case studies such as the MoneyTank app and the Muon research project pinned to its pages. A spinning self-portrait, a tri-colour logo and a burst of colourful beads in the footer carry the same playful tone through to the very last section.
The typography pairs the editorial serif Instrument Serif with the rounded sans Afacad, while the illustrations were drawn in Procreate and the whole site is built in Framer. Together they show how much personality web design can carry when a portfolio is drawn by hand rather than assembled from a template. The site received a Special Kudos from CSS Design Awards in 2026, recognition for a portfolio that commits fully to its own illustrated world.
