Panos Tsakiris designed MAST- a concept branding project focused on packaging. Chios island in Greece is allegedly the only place on earth, mastic trees can grow. The farmers ‘hurt’ the barks of the mastic trees leaving these iconic marks called ‘kentos’ or ‘kentima’. The tree then, naturally creates a resin material in an attempt to self heal its trauma. This material that is carefully and painstakingly collected is called mastic tear.
Sourcing inspiration from these marks, the main element is debossed on the sustainable recycled paper used on the packaging and collateral material. Finally, an artificial resin label is carefully applied to the front of the pack as an embellishment element.
