Studio Feixen designed Animation covers for WBW. They just finished a cover series for the Swiss architecture magazine «werk, bauen + wohnen» (Here you can find an overview: https://www.studiofeixen.ch/wbw/). For one year the studio were asked to compress the content of the current issue into one picture. They were completely free so we decided to go a bit further and did not produce images but animations.
The history of animated covers for magazines is relatively young and in our opinion not really on a high level. The studio decided to use this opportunity to change that. Sometimes it’s pure aesthetics, sometimes political, sometimes funny: The magazine about Berlin for example shows the symbolic Berlin tower built out of a curry sausage and fries (with glowing ketchup during night time). Or the issue about contemporary buildings for elderly people shows an inside scene of a spacecraft.
About the author:
Studio Feixen is an independent Design Studio based in Lucerne, Switzerland that creates visual concepts. Their language is clear, powerful and imaginative, typography becomes an image, color space and graphics a part of urban space. «We focus specifically on nothing in particular. Whether it’s graphic design, interior design, fashion design, type design or animation – as long as it challenges us – we are interested.» To make it even more clear how much they don’t care, they opened their own pizzeria «Da Marcello» just one year ago. They work internationally with clients like Nike, Google, Hermès or The New York Times as well as more locally with institutions like Wanderlust or the Nuits Sonores Festival in France, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Südpol or the Luzerner Theater.
